Holiday Unique

I think we are almost finished decorating here...just a few minor changes here and there. I've really enjoyed looking for unique decorating ideas this year though. These are some of my favorites.

I love this idea of placing a collection of red and white china in a cabinet and then filling in with red wrapped packages. We have a cabinet filled with old yellow ware bowls that I think would work just as nice with packages.

Here's a new take on the center piece idea...hang it above the table. It would look really nice at night with some tiny white lights too.

Maybe you could hang these ornaments over the table. They look so pretty with these feathers in them but really you could put anything in them. Last time I was at Anthropologie, they had a series of clear ornaments hanging with salt or pepper in them. The salt looked like snow and the pepper added a great texture.

I LOVE birdcages! I am still kicking myself for not buying the one I saw at Brimfield Antique Shows. These make great table decorations with the red bow and the little cardboard birds.

These framed "Merry Christmas" panels are my favorite though. They would be so simple to make too. Just use a word processing or graphics program to spell out the words, making sure that there are only one or two letters per page. Switch between landscape and portrait page layouts to add interest. Print them out in a colorful red or green. They would look great in these frames from IKEA.

* I meant to post this yesterday but I was having some computer issues...namely the Windows 7 upgrade not going as quickly as I wanted and two trips to Staples for more memory. It's all good now but I'm sorry it's late.

  1. I particularly like the china cabinet idea, and that photo made me realise that my porcelain and china is absolutely pell-mell rather than artistically arranged. It deserves better before I add any colourful packages.

(Yes, Windows 7 is a pest).

  2. I love birdcages too, even though I don't have one. I especially like the one with the green bottom.

I still haven't decorated, but my goal is to do it today! :)
