Washington Street
Off Westminster Street
One of my classes is in downtown Providence, RI. I love to look at the architecture and the old signs of stores long gone by as I walk to class. Here are a few from Washington and Westminster Streets. The Tri-Store Bridge photo reads Cherry Hill, Gladdings, and Shepards - these were all the big department stores of the day. My mom remembers her grandfather driving her in from Connecticut to go shopping there. Unlike the other signs, Blake's Tavern is still operating.
A little inspiration for the weekend...
Great shots! I love old signs, and the last one is great :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh I really love these photo's. Just the clarity, colors and the feel of history really comes through. So well captured.
ReplyDeleteThat quote is a good one too.

LOVELY pictures! :-) I love photography and your blog.
ReplyDeleteCool post...it's so amazing how things change...buildings get torn down, left empty...or transformed. I love hearing stories from my Mom about how our downtown area used to be when she was growing up. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to go back in time and experience it, just for a day?
ReplyDeleteThe Tri-Bridge Store sign off Westminster St. was a shot in the TV show Body of Proof last night. It's supposed to be set in Philadelphia, but it is actually filmed in Providence. Just thought you'd be interested.
